J.A.C. Redford’s arrangement of the classic Christian hymn “Softly and Tenderly” is adapted from the version that was used in the critically acclaimed 1985 film, The Trip to Bountiful. The score, by J.A.C. Redford, features simple, folk-like melodies played on traditional musical instruments, such as the fiddle, tin whistle, harmonica, tack piano, and guitar, augmented by an orchestral string section.

The SATB arrangement of Softly & Tenderly was performed in Oxford and Cambridge at the C. S. Lewis Foundation’s Oxbridge 2008 conference by the C. S. Lewis Summer Institute Chorale, conducted by Stanley L. Roberts of Mercer College.
